Welcome to De Kalb!
De Kalb is a charming historic town on the North East Texas Trail. Entering Bowie County from the west the NETT is best suited for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The city park has a covered pavilion with picnic tables and the nearby Industrial Park has hook-ups and primitive camping as well as corrals for horses.
Entering town, one will enjoy several restaurants located adjacent to the trail. The Front Street Junction, sitting right next to the trail, enjoys a wide-ranging reputation for great food and wonderful hospitality. The Williams House Museum System, housed in the old railroad section foreman’s house built in 1880 and has expanded to include several adjacent buildings, welcomes visitors to tour or just to sit and rest a spell. De Kalb also boasts three cottages available for daily rent, two adjacent to the trail sleeping 8 and 6 people and the third one is two block south of the trail and can sleep 12. Reservations can be found on Airbnb. For breakfast, De Kalb has Big Daddy’s Donuts and Rio Verde. Recently opened De Kalb Grind, located in the Maranatha Church, is a great place for your morning coffee fix. Should you need to restock, Spring Market is located on the trail on the east end of town.
Annually, several events are held on the trail. Saturday in the Park is the last Saturday in September and is a fun filled day beginning with a 5K race and ending with a chili supper. De Kalb Texas Oktoberfest is the first Saturday in October. More information can be found at www.dekalbtexasoktoberfest.com or on Facebook. The West Bowie Rotary Club hosts the Run the Rail Half-Marathon beginning in De Kalb and ending at the trailhead in New Boston the second Saturday in October. From Avery’s city limits East to the Bowie County line is a flat, smooth and natural surface. There are a few mud holes, ruts, gravel and vegetation along the route.

The public is asked to contact the person listed for each trail town to make reservations for camping. A complete list of campsites and contact information is posted on the NETT website.
De Kalb : Contact De Kalb City Hall for permits during business hours: (903) 667.2410. After business hours or weekends, please contact Denise Swint at (903) 826.1359. At the present time there is primitive camping at the industrial park. Four (4) spaces have water and electricity. There are a total of 12 spaces and 4 pens for equine use. Showers are available at the city storm shelter and De Kalb VFD.
