G3 of gravel cycling

Saturday, September 15th 8:00 AM

Greenville Gravel Grinder is a self-supported gravel bike ride on a set route along mixed terrain roads. The ride starts and finishes at Landon’s Winery in downtown Greenville.  The route takes you on combinations of gravel, dirt, portions of the Northeast Texas Trail and hard surface roads.  This event will take place during the 22nd annual Cotton Patch Challenge and inaugural Texas Legends of Cycling.  There will be two northern routes to choose from: 30 to 40 miles and 60 to 70 miles – each with a “wet” and “dry” option.  Check our website prior to the event to download GPS map.  Following the ride there will be a complimentary cold serving of Bell’s Craft Beer served in custom made beer glass at Ashen Rose in downtown Greenville.

Jom and Rhonda HoytYou can just sign up for the Gravel Ride or opt for a full weekend of events to honor the face of cycling in the Lone Star State, Jim Hoyt, founder of Richardson Bike Mart. He is known also as simply “Jim” or Jimmy,” but mostly as a true legend for all things bicycles in Texas.  With more than 250,000 pedaled miles (and counting, with many of those on a tandem with his wife Rhonda) under his cycling cap, Hoyt’s life has revolved around the bicycle industry for decades. This weekend option will include:

Friday: 6:00 – 8:00 PM: Landon Winery TLC wine tasting

Saturday AM: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Cotton Patch Challenge ride

Saturday PM: 1:00 -2:00 PM: After Cotton Patch ride meet and greet with Jim and Rhonda Hoyt

Saturday PM: 6:00 – 8:00 PM Texas Legends of Cycling Banquet at the Texan Theater.

Sunday AM: 8:00 -11:00 AM: Social 25-mile round trip ride with gourmet breakfast at scenic Club Lake’s Clubhouse.
